Cornwall Council likely to raise council tax by just under 4% for 2016/17

For the past two years, Cornwall Council has increased its precept by 1.97% to keep within the limit set by the government for increases without the need for a referendum. Central government is now encouraging local councils to add a supplementary 2% to cover the increased costs of Adult Social Care, particularly in relation to the increase in minimum wage (so-called living wage).

It is likely that, at its meeting on 28 January, the Cabinet will recommend a rise in council tax of 3.97%. Full Council will meet on 16 February to finalise the Budget and council tax figures.
