Cabinet and Full Council support intervention and investment in development at Hayle

Six hundred new homes and jobs could transform Hayle Harbour under a plan and funding approved by Cornwall Council.

Cornwall Council has developed the plan with the current land owners Sennybridge Hayle Ltd (SHL), following agreement from Cabinet in 2017 for the council to enter into negotiations to secure the future of the area.

At its meeting on 13 February, Cabinet agreed to proceed with an application for funding from Homes England of approximately £5.5 million to deliver on-site infrastructure in the Hayle Harbour area; and to conclude negotiations with the site owners to acquire the land at the Riviere Fields part of the site. The plan is for the Council to bring forward the development of quality new homes including new affordable homes for local people on this site.

The rest of the Hayle harbour site at Hilltop and Quayside will, subject to necessary planning approvals, be developed by the private sector.

Full Council, at its meeting on 26 February, approved the necessary capital uplift of £15.7 million to allow these transactions to proceed.
